Recently, our buddies over at Deluxe Magazine and The Drift Record Shop in the UK did a feature on Light In The Attic for their latest issue. The four page spread includes a rad Q&A with LITA’s own Jon Treneff about our 2012 Road Trip.

The issue also features an interview with Stephen “Sugar” Segerman, co-owner of Mabu Vinyl in Cap Town and one of great people behind Rodriguez’s rediscovery. Here’s an excerpt of that interview where Sugar shows us some love. ”Since Matt Sullivan and I first spoke and he told me of his plans to get Rodriguez’s music released on his label in the USA, it has been great to see this highly-respected and very hard-working label do such fantastic work to get Rodriguez’s music out there on CD and Vinyl (and MP3) with top quality packaging and booklets (one of which i contributed to)”.

Light In The Attic Road Trip – Episode 2 (and MORE CONTESTS!)

Monday, September 24th, 2012

The Light In The Attic Road Trip is well underway, and we’re giving away so much stuff, it feels like some sort of groovy record drenched Christmas in September. Our first Seat In The Van winner, Annie, joined the crew and rolled with us from Portland all the way to San Francisco, hitting all the best shops and burning through her $50 a day record stipend like a pro. Watch Episode Two of the Road Trip Video Series below to see all the misadventures we’ve gotten into so far.

(If you missed Episode 1, catch it here)

It’s time to say good-bye to Annie, and hello to our next vinyl crazed passenger – Steve Ritchey from San Francisco! We’re sad to see Annie go, but excited to meet our new pal and start the next leg of this wild ride.

It’s been a little crazy around here, and it keeps getting crazier… or maybe we’re the ones getting crazier. No matter how you flip it, we’ve got a couple more contests coming your way! Let’s start with our final Seat In The Van Contest! This leg of the trip starts at our 10 Year Anniversary Concert in Los Angeles (SOLD OUT- tickets for the Seattle show still available -going fast) and ending back in San Jose on the long winding road home to Seattle! For your chance to win, leave a comment below telling us why you want to hop in the van with us! You must live in or be able to get yourself to Los Angeles by September 28th. The winner will fly home on our dime from San Jose on Sunday, September 30th! Remember: Free room and board PLUS fifty bucks a day to spend on wax!

Now, if all this wasn’t enough or if you’re still not totally convinced we’ve lost our minds here’s yet ANOTHER contest for you, to spice things up a bit. We will be giving away three $50 gift certificates for LightInTheAttic.Net! For your chance to win, head to the  official Light In The Attic Facebook page and leave a comment on our cover photo (pictured below) telling us about your favorite record shop (make sure to tag the store, if you can)! The winners will be announced on Friday, October 5th!

Our winner is Steve Ritchey- an ex record store employee/vinyl nut from San Francisco.  He’s been a long time Light In the Attic supporter AND he doesn’t smell (or so he says)! He’ll be jumping in the van tomorrow, so stay tuned! We can’t wait to meet him.

Light In The Attic Road Trip – A Seat In The Van Winner Pt. 2!

Friday, September 21st, 2012

Phew, It’s been a wild week over here at Light In The Attic! We’re gearing up for our upcoming 10 Year Anniversary Concerts (LA is SOLD OUT – Seattle going fast) and trying to get the LITA Road Trip van out on the open highway!

As you all know, this is not our first try filling this empty seat – our previous winner, Matt, had to return home for a family emergency – so we tried again and here we are with a new batch of groovy comments from all you potential road trippers!

Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for – the 2nd winner of Light In The Attic’s Seat In The Van Contest – Annie Hartman, A PDX dweller (born’n raised in Seattle) who enjoys all things LITA and the great open road! She works at her mom’s yarn store (The Yarn Barn) and was able to take a few days off to hit the road with us!

If all this wasn’t enough excitement for y’all, just wait – there’s more! Now that we have ourselves a buddy for the Portland to San Francisco leg of the trip, we don’t want our Light In The Attic road warriors to get lonely the rest of the way — that’s where you come in… AGAIN!

YOU: record obsessed dweller of San Francisco (or surrounding area), friendly, not too smelly

US: a road-trip crazed record label from Seattle (also, not too smelly)

THE PLAN: Hop in the van on Monday afternoon in SF and trip with us all the way to Hollywood!

Here’s the skinny:

We will provide room and board, a seat in the LITA van, $50 bucks a day to spend on records, a flight back from LA -> SF on Thursday  morning (9/27), and a lifetime of memories. Yes, all of these can be yours! For your chance to win, briefly tell us in a comment below why you want to go on this epic journey with us. Be sure to include your name and email in the appropriate  fields (email addresses will be kept private) so we can contact you. And remember, you must be able to meet us Monday afternoon (9/24) in San Francisco! We will contact the winner on Saturday, September 22.

The open road calls… again. We can’t wait to hang with you all along the way!

Light In The Attic Road Trip 2012: UPDATE! We Need YOU In The Van!!!

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

UPDATE: Matt Snodgrass, the winner of the LITA Road Trip “Win A Seat In The Van” Free Basin’ Friday, flew into Seattle late last night and unfortunately this morning he had a family emergency come up and won’t be able to go on this epic journey with us. We are hugely bummed about this but understand that family things come up. Be well Matt and we’ll see you again soon!

So, we went back to the submissions and found a willing candidate but he can only do a part of the journey. Ahhh! So, here’s an idea. YOU: dweller of the great city of Portland (or surounding area). US: A road trip-crazed record label from Seattle. THE PLAN: Hop in the van with us on Friday morning in PDX and go on an awesome weekend record bender with us all the way to San Francisco!

The long and short of it is: We will provide room and board, a seat in the LITA van, $50 bucks a day to spend on records, a flight back from SF -> PDX on Monday night, and a lifetime of memories. Yes, all of these can be yours! For your chance to win a seat in the van, briefly tell us in a comment below why you want to be on this four day journey with us. Be sure to include your name and email in the email/name fields (this is not shown) so that we can contact you. And remember, you must be able to meet us Friday morning in Portland! We will contact the winner tomorrow, Thursday 9/20 at 7pm!

The open road calls…we hope to see you out there soon!

2012 LITA Road Trip — Seat In The Van WINNER!

Monday, September 17th, 2012

It’s a busy time here at LITA. Both the Seattle and LA offices are in full overdrive gearing up for our two anniversary shows (LA is SOLD OUT and Seattle is quick to follow, so grab those tix before they are gone!) not to mention the epic road trip. Oh yeah…the road trip, that’s only 4 DAMN DAYS AWAY!!! So we’d better stop beating around the bush and go ahead and announce the winner already.

That said, let’s first start off by saying thanks so much for all the entries.  In total we got around three dozen emails and we were blown away by your letters, which came from as far away as Australia, Portugal, and the Middle East. We spent hours this weekend reading and rereading all of the entries and it was a difficult choice to pick the right person that was willing to submit themselves to such a torturous journey. Our hearts are warmed by all the love sent our way. And with this, we give you the winner of the seat in the van: Matt Snodgrass from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

When reading Matt’s letter, we were beyond touched by his passion for all things LITA, and knew he would be the right fit to join us in the van. We recognized Matt’s name right off the bat, as he’s been a loyal LITA vinyl subscriber from day one, and has continuously been atop the totem pole spreading the LITA gospel throughout the fine state of Oklahoma. Also, Matt has NEVER been to the West Coast! Matt will be taking two weeks off work (lucky he hadn’t already used his precious vacation days), and we’re overly joyed he’ll be joining us on the road trip!

So we’d better get back to work. We’ve got a lot of packing to do! Be sure to follow the road trip on the official Tumblr page, Twitter (#litaroadtrip2012) and Instagram (@lightintheatticrecords) where we’ll be posting all the minute-by-minute shenanigans. Keep an eye out for flash sales at random rest stops and photos/videos from the road.
