New Vadim Music Titles IN STOCK!

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Just got some great new titles in from our friends at Vadim Music. These are all vinyl only and pressed in limited quantities, so don’t sleep!

First up is the second lost album from the legendary Bobby Boyd. This is an extremely rare record existing only as promo copies and only seen for top $ on the collector market. A coveted funk gem mixing gentle ballads and wild instrumentals, the groove is hot, smooth and finely honed, revealing the full sensitivity of his compositions.

Another great title from master Janko Nilovic, Psyc’ Impressions is an enigma of wacked-out sixties/seventies styles. Elements of big band jazz, psychedelic, funk and rock meld themselves to a solid pop base that never lets up. Guitars are dipped into an acid bath, bass and drums wind on to infinity, and swarms of brass kindle the live embers of a high-powered groove.

A legendary super group featuring France’s best musicians of that era–André Ceccarelli on drums, Marc Chantereau on keyboards and percussion, Christian Padovan on bass and Slim Pezin on guitar–C.C.P.P. is a shining example of 70s European jazz funk. If you like your grooves deep and virtuosic, then look no further.

Just in from Vadim Music: Janko Nilovic “Funky Tramway” and Jean-Claude Pelletier “Streaking”

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Our friends at Vadim Music do it again with two great new reissues. Just in this week are two super rare titles: Janko Nilovic’s Funky Tramway and Jean-Claude Pelletier’s Streaking!

Doted with a great reputation and very stable value in the often fluctuating rare groove market, Funky Tramway is often considered to be one of the rarest and most well developed of Janko Nilovic’s records, easily rivalling his famous cult album Rythmes Contemporains (which is already sold out). And yet, apart from a few already compiled tracks and enthused descriptions on the web from lucky record hunters here and there, little was actually known about this opus which only made its way into the hands of lucky few collectors. Deluxe CD and LP reissue, so there’s no excuse!

Jean-Claude Pelletier’s Streaking is a mythical record. It’s a reference constantly name-checked by world-funk circles of record hunters, producers and collectors who consider it an incredible funk inferno, bursting with colossal breaks and vintage grooves. A somewhat perfect hybrid of American soul’s energy and the science of French pop. Finally reissued on CD and LP, this is bound to sell out so don’t sleep!

New from Vadim Music – Bobby Boyd Congress (CD version) and Original Pop Corn (V/A)

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

A few months back we reviewed an excellent new release on Vadim Music–the Bobby Boyd Congress (VDA033) record from 1971. You should check out the full review for more details, but for now, we’re excited to finally have in stock the CD pressing of this holy grail record! Also just in is the excellent Original Pop Corn (VAD023CD) album.

Within the series of great hit albums springing from the hot bed of sixties pop, Original Pop Corn stands out as an unsurpassable model in the genre. An explosive record, fruit of the overactive minds of the maddest of French musicians. On the album are members of the cult group Cruciférius, the Franco-Moroccan soul singer Vigon (un-credited), plus the gifted arranger Karl-Heinz-Schafer (author of the famous score Les Gants Blancs du Diable, also reissued by Vadim).

Using the studio as an instrument in its own right, they gave birth to a mutant jam track rolling out in 7 different versions/variations, and so prefiguring the remixing technique ahead of its time. Stuffed with effects from a whole bunch of genres (delay, back-masking, electro) and doped with magical filters (the phaser on pre-techno tracks “Sweet Pop Corn Part 1 & 2″) Original Pop Corn takes the form of a brutal funk earthquake, hit with psychedelic currents that defy all forms of classification. Known and actively sought out by Beat diggers, Mod DJs and adventurous music fanatics alike, this gem remains one of the holy grails of rare European groove and pop culture.
