Well, Sipreano is gearing up to bring down the house again this weekend and he wanted us to pass along the information.  So, looksie down below, ’cause that’s where the information is.  Feel lucky Canada, you’ve got a real treasure in your midst:

SAD NEWS FROM SIPREANO

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Our good friend Sipreano just sent over this tragic news:

THE SCOTTY HARD TRUST

Hey folks,

Yer good pal Sipreano here. Just got back from NYC and heard some very tragic news that needs to be shared. Musician, engineer, and all round good force Scott Harding (aka Scotty Hard) was seriously injured in a hit-and-run coming home from the studio on February 15, fracturing his clavicle, rib, shoulder blade, and back, including a catastrophic fracture of his T5 vertebrae, which crushed his spinal chord. Unfortunately, this Canadian ex-pat has no health insurance and will be faced with a monstrous hospital bill by the end of his stay. Scott has been a big supporter of my work with Light In The Attic and has touched many over the years with his open heart and deft musical touch. Here’s a link to a website set up by his pals where you can give this brother a much needed hand (including details of a March 19 benefit concert in New York).

All the best,
Sip

SUMMER SOUND IN CANADA ENTERED IN TO REGGAE FILM FESTIVAL 2008

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Summer Records Anthology is a great album of music.  An amazing chronicle of one of the great producers in music history and the fantastic stable of musicians he inspired to create amazing music.  For those of you who purchased the dual-disc, you’ll know that Sipreano, our all-knowing music brain in Canada, worked his little ass off to put together a documentary about the great Jerry Brown (founder of Summer Records) and the creation of his musical legacy.  It’s a wonderful film filled with great archival footage and some bad-ass interviews with Mr. Brown himself (you can view it HERE, HERE, and HERE).Thus, it’s our pleasure to spread the good word that Sipreano (and all the others who worked like dogs to get this put together) have entered the film, and had it accepted, in the 2008 Reggae Film Festival to be held in one Kingston, Jamaica.  The festival’s sole goal is to celebrate, well, films about reggae (many of which have never even been shown in Jamaica) and give folks a chance to learn about the artists and culture behind this impressive collection of old and new films.

It’s still pretty raw, but the Jamaica Film Academy website at least gives a little info on what’s playing and when.

Again, congrats Sipreano, you’ve done us proud!

Sad News From London

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Our good friend Sipreano sent over this saddening news story this morning:

“Alton Ellis, the man acclaimed as ‘The Godfather of Rocksteady’, has, for several weeks now, been in hospital in London undergoing treatment for cancer of the lymph glands and is scheduled to start chemotherapy soon.

Alton Ellis is one of the great figures in reggae and has played alongside some of the all-time legends. He is Noel Ellis’ father and appears on our very first Jamaica to Toronto release Wayne McGhie and The Sounds of Joy. In the words of The Observer’s Basil Walters:

“Alton Neamiah Ellis was born 63 years ago and is regarded as one of Jamaica’s finest musical treasures for almost 50 years.”

So, during all the joy and happiness of the holiday season, make sure you keep Mr. Alton Ellis in your thoughts and prayers.

Everyone here at Light In The Attic surely is.

AROUND THE OFFICE: Sipreano

Monday, September 24th, 2007

We received such a positive response from last week’s “celebrity” edition of Around the Office (featuring Bob Husak, drummer for The Blakes) we decided to extend our little arms to see if we could wrangle other known entities to tell us what they’re watching, listening to, smoking, high-fiving, etcetera, etcetera. We baited our hooks with false hopes of fame and fortune, and threw out our lines

And it worked. This weeks Around the Office was submitted by Canadian renaissance man, Sipreano. He’s the mastermind behind our absolutely awesome Jamaica to Toronto series (the whole thing), a former writer for Vancouver’s Georgia Straight weekly, an avid (see: obsessive) music collector and historian, and a local DJ. On top of all that our resident office compliment-giver Kate Peterson claims, he’s “very nice.”

Enjoy.
