For this week’s Free Basin’ Fridays, we’re very pleased to share with you Annette Peacock‘s I’m The One (FDR 601). Reissued here for the first time on vinyl and the first CD reissue outside of Annette’s own limited pressing from a few years back, I’m The One is a landmark record from this pop avant-garde icon. Out now on CD and LP, the vinyl pressing is a limited edition and sports 180-gram wax, liner notes insert with never-before-seen photos (also included in the CD version), and an oversized 18″ x 24″ folded poster. I’M THE ONE because that’s what my mother always told me.
I am the one because nearly thirty years ago, I lent someone a copy of I’m The One, and they never gave it back to me, along with Ornette Coleman and many other LPs at the time. I never saw them again, indeed. We learn from such bad things, though. I would love to hear that album again, as she’s continued to present her own vision of music, poetry, jazz and all sorts to people, everywhere. From all the tunes she wrote for Paul Bley, to the work with the Moog synthesizer, to albums of the 70s and 80s, to that fantastic 2 CD set on ECM in the late 90s, Annette Peacock has continued to be the one. Here’s hoping that, I, will be the one, this time.
