Light In The Attic Road Trip – A Seat In The Van Winner Pt. 2!

Friday, September 21st, 2012

Phew, It’s been a wild week over here at Light In The Attic! We’re gearing up for our upcoming 10 Year Anniversary Concerts (LA is SOLD OUT – Seattle going fast) and trying to get the LITA Road Trip van out on the open highway!

As you all know, this is not our first try filling this empty seat – our previous winner, Matt, had to return home for a family emergency – so we tried again and here we are with a new batch of groovy comments from all you potential road trippers!

Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for – the 2nd winner of Light In The Attic’s Seat In The Van Contest – Annie Hartman, A PDX dweller (born’n raised in Seattle) who enjoys all things LITA and the great open road! She works at her mom’s yarn store (The Yarn Barn) and was able to take a few days off to hit the road with us!

If all this wasn’t enough excitement for y’all, just wait – there’s more! Now that we have ourselves a buddy for the Portland to San Francisco leg of the trip, we don’t want our Light In The Attic road warriors to get lonely the rest of the way — that’s where you come in… AGAIN!

YOU: record obsessed dweller of San Francisco (or surrounding area), friendly, not too smelly

US: a road-trip crazed record label from Seattle (also, not too smelly)

THE PLAN: Hop in the van on Monday afternoon in SF and trip with us all the way to Hollywood!

Here’s the skinny:

We will provide room and board, a seat in the LITA van, $50 bucks a day to spend on records, a flight back from LA -> SF on Thursday  morning (9/27), and a lifetime of memories. Yes, all of these can be yours! For your chance to win, briefly tell us in a comment below why you want to go on this epic journey with us. Be sure to include your name and email in the appropriate  fields (email addresses will be kept private) so we can contact you. And remember, you must be able to meet us Monday afternoon (9/24) in San Francisco! We will contact the winner on Saturday, September 22.

The open road calls… again. We can’t wait to hang with you all along the way!

ok it looks like i didn’t win the seat from pdx to sf, so i’m gonna try for sf to la which is cool since i’m in la. getting to sf is easy peasy for me. and again i will say:

i really really really wanna do this! i bought the shin joong hyun album from LITA when it was released and have been listening to sixto non-stop since the documentary came out. went all the way to seoul to find shin joong hyun records and couldn’t find one, so i couldn’t believe LITA put one out. also been dying to go on a road trip! i promise i’m low-maintenance and will make you laugh!

plus, i just got laid off today, so i am freeeeee…

  3. Jason says:

PLZ pick me! I got nothing to do but buy records and go on the road!

  4. Cory Everton says:

Pick me! Pick me! I love your label, have dozens of your records, don’t totally smell, and promise to spread the Light In The Attic gospel from city to city.

    Hi,
I am SF based and a huge LITA fan. I worked in record stores (Reckless in Chicago and some others elsewhere) for a long time and have been following LITA since the Free Design and Wheedle’s groove releases. You folks have reissued some of my all time favorites (Karen Dalton, Annette Peacock, Louvin Bros.Thin Lizzy, and Jim Ford) and turned me on to things I didn’t know about and have entered permanent heavy rotation (Jamaica to Toronto, Jim Sullivan and Michael Chapman). I would be psyched to travel and shoot the shit about records with folks who are releasing such exciting stuff. Also I could really use a brief from temping hell. Plus, I don’t smell, I’m friendly, and my girlfriend works for a hot shit bakery so I could probably score us some amazing sweet treats for the road. Thanks for your consideration. Safe travels.

    Hey!
I just stumbled upon your Shin Joong Hyun album today while I was looking around at South Korean psych on the internet. Pretty amazing how Beatles influence was pervasive in popular music all over the world. Anyways this seems like a really cool experience! I grew up overseas my whole life in a bunch of places so I have always been interested in world pop music for a long time. There is no better feeling than finding a obscure 60′s Sinn Sisamouth record in a bin in Hong Kong or a Bowie white vinyl single at some dude’s house/record store in Athens. Either way, I appreciate what you guys do and am about to snatch this reissue of Donnie and Joe Emerson you have on here. I know its late on Saturday but if you guys haven’t reached out to anyone yet I would love to join you on your adventures. Be well.

Also, why no 10 year anniversary show in SF?! I guess ill have to wait for the 20 year show.

  8. Gabe says:

If you haven’t picked a winner yet, I nominate my neighbor, Matt. Here’s why:

    1. He got laid off four months ago and hasn’t been able to find work

    2. He is a huge fan of your label

    3. He often spends five hours digging through boxes of 45s with his portable turntable to find total gold

    4. He’s insanely nice and will probably let you guys go through all his records at his house

    5. He doesn’t know I’m signing him up for this, but he mentioned it this morning and I know he could do it

    6. He would basically lose his shit if you picked him

    7. He can tell you guys funny stories for hours

    8. He doesn’t smell and is easy to travel with

    9. He lives an hour north of SF

    10. I think he loves records more than his wife

    Thanks,
    G.

  9. Matt Snodgrass says:

Thank you again, Josh, for being YOU, being SO kind and friendly and for, along with Matt Sullivan, being the Man there at Light In The Attic Records. The passion and heart that you all bring to your jobs is beyond admirable – it is downright inspiring. Thinking about that being a potential j o b and a monumentally fulfilling gig is tremendously exciting and enlivening to me and my rather nominal pursuits back here in Tulsa. It pained me to visit the Emerald and then have to turn around and head back home so soon but it was a real pleasure and a treat to at least get a glimpse of such a cool guy in his natural habitat and in rare form at the helm of greatness. Cheers to all involved at LITA for being so very efficient and caring in your humbly artistic profession and kudos to all who support this mighty fine American record label! I like to think I know people pretty well, Josh, and you, my friend, are about as good as they come!
