Thank God It’s Friday! The world didn’t end and we still exist… with one purpose – hooking you all up with some grade A tunage. In the spirit of the holidays and life on earth, we’re giving away one hell of a stocking stuffer – Sweat Tea’s cover of the Wendy Rene classic “After Laughter Comes Tears” pressed on purple wax!

Second in our 10 Year Anniversary 7″ series, we have Alex Maas of the Black Angels and Erika Wennerstrom / Jesse Ebaugh of Heartless Bastards (under the band name Sweet Tea) covering Wendy Rene’s ‘After Laughter Comes Tears’. Preserving the original song’s creepy organ and tortured soul, Sweet Tea adds deep dub bass and raw power. Wendy Rene’s original – beloved of Wu Tang Clan, who sampled it on ‘Tearz’ – was one of a handful of timeless soul songs she recorded with The Drapels and solo for Stax before retiring prematurely to raise a family.
This handsome 45 features the Sweet Tea cover b/w the Wendy Rene Original. Leave a comment below with your all time favorite cover song for your chance to score! Winner will be chosen at random and announced next Friday! Good luck, and happy holidays!

Omg I want this so bad
This is my favorite of the anniversary 7″ singles. Both versions are fantastic and unique. If my comment is picked, choose again.
nice work!
here’s another sweet, sweet cover: the cast of SCTV (including Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, John Candy and Rick Moranis) in the Pre-Teen Telethon sketch doing “My Girl” (aka, Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone So Long) by Chilliwack. Pure genius.
