There’s a lot to love about our recent reissue of D’Angelo’s Voodoo, but truly one of our favorite details of this release are Jason King’s liner notes. It’s hard not to thumb through them every time we give our copies a spin. Jason put together this awesome video about his process writing the notes, the players, and why Voodoo means so much to him. Check it out!
To read the notes in their entirety, grab a copy of D’Angelo’s Voodoo. Available now at LightInTheAttic.net!

On Friday I recieved my copy of Voodo’s reissue on the mail.
Really, the liner notes are outstanding, one of the best ones I’ve read in my life, up there with Stanley Booth’s for the James Luther Dickinson “Dixie Fried” reissue.
The best thing is that they’re 100% musical. They talk little about gossip and stuff, but they give lots and lots of clues about the music, the ideas behind THAT sound. It makes you understand better why this record is so special.
Kudos to Jason King and LITA.
Light in the Attic should produce a Soulquarians box set to go with D’angelo’s “Voodoo”. “Things Fall Apart” by the Roots, “Like Water For Chocolate” by Common and “Mama’s Gun by Erykah Badu were all recorded by the exact same people at the same time in the same studio and ,as a result, have the same vibe. Oh yeah, and Jason King should do all of the liner notes….just a suggestion LITA. Plus, “Things Fall Apart” and “Mama’s Gun” never got “proper” vinyl releases. You should see them….they’re pathetic!
