LITA Presents: “GAINSBOURG: A HEROIC LIFE” – NYC and LA Ticket GIVEAWAYS!

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

We’re excited to announce that we’re co-presenting several sneak preview screenings across the USA of the great new film Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life (directed by Joann Sfar). Taking the best from La Vie en Rose and Amélie, renowned comic book artist Joann Sfar’s Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life is a completely original take on one of France’s greatest mavericks, the illustrious and infamous Jewish singer-songwriter, Serge Gainsbourg (Eric Elmosnino). Born Lucien Ginsburg to Russian-Jewish parents, Sfar follows him from his precocious childhood in Nazi-occupied Paris, to his beginnings as small time jazz musician and finally pop superstar. Along the way he romances many of the era’s most beautiful women, including Juliette Greco (Anna Mouglalis), Brigitte Bardot (Laetitia Casta) and Jane Birkin (Lucy Gordon). Employing a witty surrealistic style and a soundtrack that includes many of the musician’s greatest hits, Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life is a quintessential time capsule to ‘60’s Paris.

We’re GIVING AWAY one pair of tickets to screening in New York City at the New Museum (this is sold out, so these are the only tix left!) and Los Angeles at the Bootleg Theater for this Wednesday, August 24th. For your chance to win, leave your name and email address (which is kept hidden) and tell us your favorite Serge Gainsbourg song. Winners will be announced Wednesday at 9AM (PST) and 12PM (EST). More screenings and giveways to follow, so check back soon. Good luck!

Free Basin’ Fridays – Diana Darby “I V (Intravenous)” LP Giveaway!

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

TGIFBF! It’s Free Basin’ Friday! This week we couldn’t be more stoked to give away a LP copy of Diana Darby’s IV

Diana Darby’s I V (intravenous) is a brand new album of songs that have passed through seven years of fire in a real life, retaining what Pitchfork called “minimal, whispered rendition(s)” of “powerfully fatalistic evaluations of hope.”

I V follows in the footsteps of three critically acclaimed releases and continues Darby’s unique ability to create beautiful and scary confessional tapestries, full of “fine lyrics and stellar arrangements” (Pop Matters). It is sure to reconnect Darby to her loving cult — and entrance an entirely new crowd of noir-folk fans with her deceptively lovely songcraft.

Though living in Nashville for the past several years, Darby returned to New York in 2011 to record new songs inspired by a staggering amount of deeply challenging circumstances. Her guitar and vocal tracks were cut live from ferociously focused single takes. Additional instruments and harmonies were added back home. The result is a nuanced, intense, gorgeous full-length album with top-notch studio players (Viktor Krauss, Dan Dugmore, and David Henry) adding to Diana’s vision.

The rare combination of chillingly evocative musicianship, coupled with Diana’s voice and words has produced a fourth album that is anunforgettable psychotropic journey.

Leave a comment below with your name and email (kept private) for your chance to win! Winner will be announced next Friday.
