Washing over you like some auditory realization of a Howard Finster painting, we give you this essential 1976 album Have Moicy! by Michael Hurley, Unholy Modal Rounders and Jeffrey Frederick & The Clamtones! Sporting 180 gram vinyl housed in an old school tip-on jacket including faithfully reproduced original artwork by Michael Hurley, this album is fully re-mastered and sounds better than ever. Part one in our reissue series of Hurley’s albums on Rounder Records!
Tracing the lineage and citing the fore-bearers of the New Weird America, ya can’t help but mention the music of bizarre folk singer/guitarist/artist Michael Hurley. If you haven’t been following his career since the 1970’s (when he was collaborating with the likes of the Holy Modal Rounders and Jesse Colin Young) then you probably discovered him in the past couple of years via Devendra Banhart’s & Andy Cabic’s label Gnomonsong, who have released Hurley’s recent recordings. Here’s your chance, kids! Time to get weird!

Thanks to all the friends and fans that came out on Saturday for our DJ set at Amoeba Music (Hollywood). We rocked it hard and had beaucoup fun to boot. Special thanks goes out to our bros and brodettes at Ameoba–Kara Lane, Daniel Tures, Joel Isaac Black, Mahssa Taghinia, Morgan Young, and all the rest of the awesome staff!
Also a big shout out to our give-away winners! The first dude that got the Michael Chapman Fully Qualified Survivor LP ran away before we could snap a pic (he litterally ran up, grabbed the record, then ran away! dude was stoked!). The next lucky fan was chill enough to score a Michael Hurley Have Moicy! LP and give us a big smile for the camera:

@Not_YouAgain snagged "Have Moicy!"
Here are some more sweet pics from the Amoeba staff. Check out their site for more shots. Tanx for the memories!

Matt (left) cueing up. Patrick (right) looks on in awe...

Patrick (r) laughs off yet another one of Matt's (l) crazy moves...

smiles for miles

Washing over you like some auditory realization of a Howard Finster painting, we give you this essential 1977 album Long Journey by Michael Hurley! Sporting 180 gram vinyl housed in an old school tip-on jacket including faithfully reproduced original artwork by Michael Hurley, this album is fully re-mastered and sounds better than ever. Part two in our reissue series of Hurley’s albums on Rounder Records!

The third and final part in our reissue series of Michael Hurley’s three Rounder Records releases–Have Moicy!, Long Journey, and finally Snockgrass. Released in 1980, Snockgrass is a delightful singer-songwriter mix-up, with songs that switch from the serious (“O My Stars”) to the satirical (“I Heard The Voice Of A Porkchop”) at the drop of a hat (sometimes in the middle of a song), which can result in unexpected laughter – the cover painting (done by Hurley himself), tends to get puzzled and startled reactions for its surreal landscape filled with naked people and instrument-playing wolves! The album features several members of the Holy Modal Rounders, including Peter Stampfel on fiddle, Dave Reisch on bass and vocals, and Robin Remaily on mandolin.

Sporting 180 gram vinyl housed in an old school tip-on jacket including faithfully reproduced original artwork by Michael Hurley, this album is fully re-mastered and sounds better than ever. The perfect Summer record to enjoy on the porch with a cold one!

This is a great story! Marc Isreal, a free lovin’ puppeteer, was hitchhiking from his home in Massachusetts to Woodstock to deliver a shipment of home brewed Kombucha. The first person who picked him up just happened to be Michael Hurley (AKA Snock). Watch this short documentary and live vicariously through Marc!
