OH SEATTLE WE LOVE YOU SO!

Friday, June 13th, 2008

You know, we live in a pretty great place, this here Seattle.  Big trees, beautiful water, the ever-looming corporate presence of Starbucks (heart) – what isn’t there to love about this place?

Sure, we’ve some things to be complaining about: the weather (passively, because that’s how we roll), how shitty our Mariners are (get rid of Sexson, that dudes a money hole!), or the fact that our basketball team is going the way of the tumbleweeds (damn you Clay Bennett).  But c’mon this is a marvelous city, and here’s a couple of reasons why:

1.  HAROLD AND MAUDE AT THE NORTHWEST FILM FORUM!

Yup, the greatest love story about an 80 year old and a suicidal high schooler, well, ever is being screened for an entire month and a half (July 1 – August 20) at our beloved Northwest Film Forum.  This, if ya’ll remember, would be Hal Ashby’s revered masterpiece scored by the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens.  The beloved soundtrack that Cameron Crowe recently re-released on vinyl to massive fanfare from the music-loving world.  Yes, that fucking film will be screening for an entire month at the Northwest Film Forum.  Seattle: 1, rest of world: 0.

2.  THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS RECORD RELEASE WITH THE BUDOS BAND

Ah shit sucka, The Saturday Knights are dropping the hottest summer album, well, ever on the 24th and in celebration of this monumental occasion, they’re throwing a fucking party.  June 27th at Nectar Lounge in Fremont, the trio will hit the stage to rock a song or ten or four hundred for a crowd of their favorite fans (those being the ones who buy tickets!).  If that wasn’t cool enough, opening up is none other than the legendary BUDOS BAND.  They alone will make your night, your week, your lifetime, but throw in the main course of Saturday Knights’ goodness and you’ve got magic for an entire family of Mormon’s lifetimes.  Be there, or be a quadrangle.

Oh Seattle!  We love you so!

CMJ LOVES LIGHT IN THE ATTIC!

Friday, June 20th, 2008

CMJ, College Music Journal for your aging heathens, is a pretty big deal.  Fledgling college DJs across the nation toil each week over their CMJ Top Spin Playlist, to help show the youngins’ of America just what in the hell drunken co-eds are bumping in their dingy basements.  If you’re in college, and you like music, you’re probably somewhat influenced by the machinations of the creaking machine that is CMJ.

Thus, we’re pretty shit-eating-grin happy to report two fantastic CMJ-related news bits:

1.  The Black Angels, oh you sweet sweet dark angels and your Directions To See A Ghost, reached #13 on the national CMJ charts.  That means that only 12 other bands stand between us and the coveted numero uno.  We’ve sent out assassins and envelopes full of money, so we’ll tell you how it goes.

2.  The Saturday Knights, whom are about to explode all over America like a ripe tomato when their album Mingle drops on down, next Tuesday the 24th, had the number one most added album for the week.  Not the second most, not the third most, no no, THE MOST ADDED ALBUM FOR THE WEEK ALL ACROSS THIS MERRY LITTLE GLOBE.

Phew.  Being this excited about something tends to make our hearts palpitate strangely.

Weeeeeeeeeee.

THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS PLAY BLOCK PARTY SATURDAY KNIGHT!

Friday, July 25th, 2008

You’re a Saturday Knights fan, right?  RIGHT.

Then this weekend is going to be big for you.  Tomorrow, Saturday the 26th of Joo-lie, you’ve got two, fairly amazing chances to see these gents do what they do best – rock a motherfucking party.  We’ve already mentioned The 2nd Annual Saturday Knights’ Donut Eating Contest to be held at Top Pot Donuts, downtown, tomorrow at 2 ‘o’ clock.  You shouldn’t miss it, the sweet combination of Tilson and a classic glazed will make more than your mouth water.  Promise.

But if you have to, oh how we’ve got a surprise for you.  What was previously a blank spot on the impressive Block Party schedule (the 10-11 on Saturday night spot) is now filled … with THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS! Yup, you read it right, closing out the festival at Neumos on Saturday night will be none other than our very own Saturday Knights.  Saturday Knights, Saturday night, Knights, night, Kniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiights … phew.

This was a massive secret up until this very day, so you should be wiping your sweaty palms and licking your cracked lips, because Saturday night is going to be a party, a real honest to goodness Saturday Knights style-party.   Be there, or be pitied.

Details after the jump!
