It is not the easiest of times to be in the music industry.  Trust us we’ve got a bit of experience in the whole record label thing.  Different labels are taking the dramatic shifts currently underway across this broad musical landscape and going in vastly different directions.

Sadly, one of our favorites, Touch ‘n’ Go, has decided to acting as a distribution center for some of the great labels working today (Atavastic, Drag City, Suicide Squeeze, Kill Rockstars, etc.).  Don’t know exactly how this will all sort out, but we imagine it’s not going to be a wee bit tougher for these labels to get there music out to the people.  We’re rooting for each and all of you.

The entire statement by Touch ‘n’ Go right here.

Here’s a great piece on the decision on NPR.

And a nice selection of pieces that Pitchfork wrote in 2006 to mark the 25th anniversary of this legendary label.
