Christian Bland, guitarist for The Black Angels, returns with some thoughts about tacos, painted faces, and his favorite bands at a little thing called SXSW.

Mr. Bland, the floor is yours.

hey guys, its been a while since I last wrote,….and lots has happened. The Psych Fest at the Red Barn was awesome. Tons of people came out. Heres a picture of the inside of the Red Barn, and me in front of the stage that I painted the Lennon and Dylan faces on (see above).

SXSW was great. We played about 4 times and got to see tons of our favorite bands; The Raveonettes, Psychic Ills, The Wooden Shjips, Spindrift, The Upsidedown, & A Place to Bury Strangers, the VIET MINH…I even did one solo show, which was dopey.

We had around 15 people staying at our house. I don’t think I slept much. We all ate at Torchy’s pretty much everyday:

1. the Brush Fire (jerk chicken, cilantro, fresh mango, diablo sauce, warm flour tortilla, melted cheese)

2. the Ranch Hand (scrambled eggs, marinated steak, diablo sauce, chipotle ranch, melted cheese)

Its amazing. I think i eat there once or twice a day now.

so last week BRMC asked us to open a show in Scottsdale, AZ and in LA at the end of this month. SO on thursday we’ll start our drive out west. We added a show in Las Vegas too at The Beauty Bar. I’ll try to keep you updated on some of the stuff that goes down on our adventure down i-10.

Ive been diggin big time on the new Raveonettes album. I can listen to it over and over and over…

I talked with Bobby Hecksher of the Warlocks on saturday, about our plans for a Summer tour starting in June, and lasting through July.

More details on that later.

Thanks a lot Christian!
