“I was really thinking about the whole picture – not just the second album, but all the albums that come after that. It had to be evolutionary.” – D’Angelo on Voodoo, Vibe 2001
Have you ever wanted to take a break from this crazy life and slow down for a couple of hours? Classic Album Sundays allows the listener to do just that; to fully immerse themselves in the music by presenting the musical context, the story behind the album and an uninterrupted replay of the album on vinyl on an audiophile hi-fi sound system (with phones switched off and no conversation). People learn about the history of the album and then hear things they have never heard before. The events are attended by non-audiophiles and audiophiles alike, who are sometimes moved to tears when they hear the details of their favorite recordings.
This month’s edition features one of the sexiest, smoothest, most soulful albums of the last 25 years. If you haven’t had a chance to dive into the sultry complexity of D’Angelo’s iconic 2000 release “Voodoo”, let me be the first to recommend you change that as soon as possible.
Recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York City the album featured a loose groove base style which was a departure from D’Angelo’s first album Brown Sugar. Blues, gospel, funk, R&B, soul, hip-hop, classic rock and jazz are all drawn on to make an album which stands out as one of the finest albums of the noughties.
There’s a feeling of having travelled when you get to the end of Voodoo and it’s a journey we are looking forward to taking again, join us at one of our intimate listening sessions around the world to experience D’Angelo as never before.
