It’s that time of season again where we announce next year’s Light In The Attic Subscription Package. To kick this off with a bang, we’re giving away a subscription one of the options in this year’s package (i.e., LP, CD, or Digital only subscriptions). Yes, that’s right. We love you that much! For your chance to win this mega Free Basin’ Fridays giveaway, send us some love in a comment below and let us know which Subscription Package you would like. Please remember to include your name and email address in the appropriate boxes (this is kept private!). Winner will be picked at random and announced next Friday, November 9th at 12PM PST. Good luck and thanks for making 2012 such and awesome year!
Here’s how the Subscription Package: You’ll receive our first 8 releases of 2013 as they become available – often before they hit shops and at a much cheaper price. Later in the year, we’ll be offering a subscription for the second part of 2013. In the past, the subscription package has solely included titles released on Light In The Attic. However, we want to sweeten the deal for 2013. Over the past couple of years, we’ve started three other imprints that we’re incredibly excited about and want to share with you. So… the 2013 Subscription Package will include releases from our four imprints: Light In The Attic, Modern Classics, Future Days, and Cinewax. As an added bonus for LP subscribers, there will be Special Subscriber-Only Colored Wax (except for D’angelo), not available for non-subscribers or anywhere else in the known universe.
As always, we’re constantly fine-tuning our release schedule, waiting for contracts to get inked and artists to be found, so it’s a little early to spill the beans on the full release schedule, but there are a few things that we’d like to reveal as part of your 2013 Subscription Package –
Considering this one lands at the very tail end of 2012 (December 19 th), it’s got 2013 written all over it. D’Angelo cut Voodoo back in ’98 and ’99 at Electric Lady Studios and in doing so created one of the modern masterpieces of our time. We’re honored to be releasing this album on vinyl after being an impossible to find LP for far too long. The reissue includes some of the best liner notes we’ve ever had the pleasure of releasing. LP subscribers will receive the limited edition first pressing featuring double 180-gram wax and a period 5″×5″ press photo of D’Angelo taken by photographer Mark Guthrie. If you’ve already pre-ordered the Voodoo album from our site and would like a 2013 subscription, then we’ll give you a free LP of your choice (of equal or lesser value) from the Light In The Attic family of labels, and we’ll cover the shipping. Marcos Valle – Garra
(LITA 091 CD & LP)
Marcos Valle – Vento Sul
(LITA 092 CD & LP)
Marcos Valle – Previsão Do Tempo
(LITA093 CD & LP)
2013 marks Marcos Valle’s 70th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the Brazilian native’s debut long player. For the past few years, we’ve been obsessed with Valle’s early ‘70s masterwork, originally recorded for the Odeon label. It’s where a new modern Brazilian pop sound effortlessly mixed bossa nova, baião and samba with foreign influences like jazz, rock, pop, soul and funk, bringing to mind the sounds of Jean Claude Vannier and David Axelrod. Under a strict Brazilian military dictatorship, Marcos worked in perfect harmony with his lyricist brother, Paulo Sergio, creating cleverly worded and musically camouflaged jabs at the ruling dictatorship. 2013 will include four separate Valle re-releases from 1970 to 73 – all featuring translated lyrics in both English and Portuguese for the first time, and new interviews with Marcos and other key players from the albums. Due to the subscription being 8 releases, we’re giving you the option of choosing which Valle albums you’d like. Take all, none, or some. We’d recommend them all or we wouldn’t be reissuing them. Our favorite’s probably Previsão Do Tempo, but it’s your call. During the online check-out process you’ll need to choose which Marcos titles you’d like.
Lee Hazlewood – Trouble Is A Lonesome Town
Light In The Attic
(LITA 096 CD, 2xLP, Digital)
Our on-going Lee Hazlewood Archive Series continues with an expanded release of Lee’s debut album, Trouble Is A Lonesome Town. Originally released in 1963, TIALT is a concept album centered around a fictional town named Trouble, inspired by Lee’s birthplace, Mannford, Oklahoma. Like Lee’s massive body of work, the album has all the touchstones of classic Lee. This expanded release marks the first time TIALT is available in its original mono mix since the ‘60s (and mastered from the original tapes), and will include over a dozen bonus tracks, and new liner notes featuring a previously unpublished 1998 interview with Lee discussing the album and his early recording years.
