For those who worship at the altar of vinyl, Record Store Day is like Christmas, Eid, Thanksgiving and Diwali, all rolled into one. It’s a day when artists and labels celebrate the unsung heroes of the music business – the guys and gals of independent record stores – and it’s just around the corner! This Saturday, April 20th, to be exact.
As you might already know, we have a slew of tasty releases coming at you in honor of this joyous holiday. For a sneak peek inside all four of our official Record Store Day 2013 titles, watch the video below!
- Public Image Ltd: “Public Image” b/w “The Cowboy Song” - 1978 debut single by former Sex Pistol John Lydon’s new band, Public Image Ltd. The record comes in an exact reproduction of the original fold-out newsprint sleeve, and is available for the first time in the US.
- Roky Erickson: “Mine Mine Mind” b/w “Bloody Hammer” - the snarling Roky Erickson track that welcomed a changed performer back from the brink following the collapse of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators. Limited pressing of 4,000 on pink-swirl vinyl
- Mercury Rev: Deserted Songs - rare demos, extra cuts and lost tracks that fell through the cracks of the 1998 classic, Deserter’s Songs. Pressed on blue and white vinyl (randomly packed) and housed in a hand-numbered tip-on jacket, including an insert with a note from Mercury Rev’s Jonathan Donahue and Grasshopper.
- Various Artists: Theppabutr Productions: The Man Behind The Molam Sound 1972-75 - double LP in an old-school, tip-on gatefold jacket housed in an o-card, plus a fold-out poster. 400 random copies are pressed on gold wax. The release follows the celebrated Thai Funk: ZudRangMa compilations and gives an in depth look at the work of the man who was, essentially, the Berry Gordy of Thailand’s Molam sound.
Just like you, we’ll be hitting the streets this Saturday, showing our undying love and affection for the stores that keep us in the biz and satisfy our undying hunger for discovering great tunes! Be sure to follow us on TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, and FACEBOOK to track our RSD 2013 pilgrimage and be privy to some killer giveaways and prizes!
We are also stoked to announce that Roky Erickson will be dropping by Waterloo Records in his home town of Austin Texas to say hello and sign copies of his RSD 7″! If you’re in town be sure to stop by!
