There are certain things in Sea-town you just don’t fuck with: Sub Pop, The Space Needle, Dicks Hamburgers, Nancy Guppy, Tilson’s scarves, the fine proprietors of the Motel Italia – the list goes on and on. But, as the nation as slowly learned over the course of the last five years, one of our great local treasures is independent radio behemoth, KEXP. They’ve spread their considerable wings this year, joining up with a New York radio conglomerate to continue to their bombardment of the best music on the airwaves.
And what can we say, they certainly seem to enjoy Light In The Attic, as the amazing new reissue by Rodriguez, Cold Fact, has jumped to number 34 on their national charts. Maybe 34 doesn’t seem that high to you negative nancies, and glass-half-full types, but look who’s ruling the roost above us: David Letterman-appearing Fleet Foxes, The Moondoggies, Danger Mouse-assisted Beck – seriously, look at that list! We couldn’t be happier that our recently rediscovered hero of late-60s-folk-psych-rock Rodriguez edged his way in to the top 50.
KEXP, we salute you.
