THE BLACK ANGELS IN THE NEW YORK TIMES!

The New York Times is the world’s greatest newspaper.  Don’t argue, it’s fucking true.  Thus we are more than ecstatic that writer Jon Pareles deemed our favorite psych-rock band The Black Angels’ worthy of a spot in his weekly “Playlist” amongst the likes of Swedish pop-sensation Lykke Li and electro-weirdos Matmos.  Mr. Pareles describes The Black Angel’s thusly:

“An emanation from the psychedelic 1960s — though they actually got started in Austin, Tex., in 2004 — the Black Angels live for the drone and the crescendo, the undertow of incantation. The songs on the band’s second album, “Directions to See a Ghost” (Light in the Attic) linger over one chord, perhaps two, and an unswerving beat, which doesn’t mean there’s no variety.”
