The Music Of Treme

Treme is currently in its first season on HBO. From David Simon, the creator of The Wire, the series is set in New Orleans in the months following Hurricane Katrina. Much like Simon’s previous efforts, Treme is a sprawling story featuring numerous characters and parallel storylines. The unifying thread linking each character in the series is music. The full spectrum of New Orleans’ rich musical heritage is on display, and more than any television series in recent memory, music plays a central role in Treme. Naturally, authenticity is at a premium, and thus far Treme has delivered:

Louis Prima, “Buona Sera”

Irma Thomas, “Wish Someone Would Care”

Smiley Lewis, “Someday You’ll Want Me”

Earl King, “Those Lonely, Lonely Nights”

Jelly Roll Morton, “I Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Say”
