TOM WILKES, 1940 – 2009

Perhaps you’ve never heard of Tom Wilkes, many haven’t, but with his death over the weekend, we say goodbye to yet another drastically important piece of the “age of rock ‘n’ roll”.  Wilkes helped to design the posters for events like the Monterey Pop Festival as well as the albums for acts like The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, and George Harrison.  Beggar’s Banquet, All Things Must Pass, Pearl, Mad Dogs & Englishmen – the list goes on and on.

Mr. Wilkes, we might not have known you at the time, but your art work certainly will endure.

An amazing write-up by The New York Times, including a ton of the album covers Wilkes was famous for right HERE.
