Two events to fill you in on… In celebration of the upcoming release: Wheedle’s Groove: Seattle’s Finest in Funk & Soul 1965-75
Seattle’s legendary Overton Berry Trio will be performing live on Friday, Aug 20th @ 5pm PST on KEXP 90.3FM. This is an extremely rare event, as Overton will be playing his infectious cover of “Hey Jude”, along with a number of other classics. In the mid-‘50s, Overton studied music at the University of Washington, later toured Vietnam with the trio during the war, and in the early ‘70s recorded some of hip-hop’s most sought-after gems, including his take on “Jesus Christ Superstar”.
And don’t miss Greg Vandy’s The Roadhouse on KEXP, Wednesday, Aug 18th @ 6:30pm PST. Robert Nesbitt, former disc jockey at Seattle’s KYAC Soul Radio will be stopping by, and taking us back to his days at KYAC in the early to mid-’70s. Plus, musicians from Wheedle’s Groove will be in studio for an exclusive interview. In the early ’70s KYAC served as the voice of all things soul & funk for the Seattle community. Robert was kind enough to write the liner notes for the new Wheedle’s Groove release.
